One Arch was commissioned to transform one of the largest religious schools in Antananarivo. Classrooms, playgrounds, assembly halls, toilets were all rethought.
The classical concrete handrail was replaced by a laser-cut metal handrail with Islamic motifs that cast different shadows onto the classroom walls, depending on the time of day.
The inner courtyard, initially clustered by a symbolic boat in mass concrete, was made spacious when the boat was replaced by a light timber boat, suspended from the existing concrete structure above.
As the sun sets and evening classes begin, the inner courtyard is illuminated by the artificial star-lit sky. The use of noble materials like stone and timber emphasize the importance of knowledge. Redesigned windows offer more natural light and better cross ventilation. Bathrooms are made more fun with bold colours and facilities that are adapted to children of all ages.
